Flat Plan: Music Magazine

Before I proceeded with my music magazine production on CS4 Photoshop, I planned, roughly how I wanted my Front Cover, Contents Page and Double Page Spread to look, in order to get a idea of how I would go about creating it. Ever since this Flat Plan there have been some minor alterations within my production, including the prop I decided to use for my Front cover which was the Dre Beats headphones, in order to make it appear as if it were a real music magazine as it connotes to the target audience that the magazine is about music, without having to read any of the text.

Final Music Magazine Prodcutions

These are my final music magazine productions which consists of  front cover, double page spread and a contents page in which i have been developing over the last few months after my college magazine, using questionnaire feedback to my target audience which were my media class and some other friends and family to analyse their preference as a magazine consumerist. My front cover uses an element of transcendence needs "Escapism"as the mise-en-scene does not represent a verisiimilitude, which then allows the audience to escape from mundane realism, as I have Incorporated a grey highlighted background into my production. However, with my contents page I chose to manipulate the main image for the intention of drawing the attention of the reader by using a black and white effect on the main image. In addition, I also manipulated the texts of "Contents" and my title "Rhythmz", I added a glow effect on the title through the use of CS4 Photoshop.

Recreated Loki Magazine

This was a magazine I recreated of the original Loki magazine in order to get to grips with using CS4 Photoshop. I found it quite challenge making this magazine, in terms of manipulation of the fonts and text sizes.

Additionally, I first found it quite challenging  creating this magazine and getting used to the program and using special effects that would enhance the appearance of the magazine. my decision for using an alternative image than the original version is because i could not find the original image without the coverlines, masthead etc.

. I have chosen this background image because it still represents power and authority over the buildings and atmosphere around him.
Overall, I think that I did exceptionally well although i need to work on using a complimentary colour between the background and the fonts in order to make it ledgible for the reader/viewer.

This is the original version of the magazine i attempted to replicate.

Target Audience Chart Analysis

The above images represents the results gained from my target audience questionnaire on their interests and what they would expect to see in a magazine which will attract them into consuming it.
I missed out question 4 because this was an open question, in which i got varied responses to, the question was "Who is your favourite artist/band?". I got a mixture of responses from Calvin Harris, One direction, Eminem and various others.

Target Audience Questionnaire And Analysis

The above images represents the results gained from my target audience questionnaire on their interests and what they would expect to see in a magazine which will attract them into consuming it.
I missed out question 4 because this was an open question, in which i got varied responses to, the question was "Who is your favourite artist/band?". I got a mixture of responses from Calvin Harris, One direction, Eminem and various others.

This preliminary task enabled me to draw out the interests of my intended target audience and to see what they would expect or like to read in a magazine if they were to purchase one. . This music magazine was mad then distributed to people in my college.

The first question I asked was about their age. This was a question I felt needed to be asked as it allowed me to first of identify  who the target audience is as well as giving me time to research what that age group was into to help my magazine. The results showed my target audience is between the ages of 18-21. This is one of the most vital information you need to know in order to attract the appropriate audience for your specific magazine.

The second question was also needed to let me know what type of genres the different age groups liked and it allowed me to assess what kind of genre I wanted to make my music magazine be based on. The majority of responses i received indicated that their genuine interests were in the hip-hop genre.

For my third question I asked what price ranges the audience would be willing to buy a music magazine for. This allowed me to formulate ideas of the value of my production.
For my fourth question, I asked who were their favourite artists. This allowed me to get a grasp of what genre these artists were and helped me in constructing the music magazine. This reinforced my idea of creating a hip-hop genre.

My fifth question helped me to understand how often the participants read a music magazine. The results helped me get a sense of how many readers read a certain amount of music magazines and so allowed me to plan how often I should distribute new editions/content in the magazine.

For my sixth question, I asked the participants what kind of colours they would like to see in a music magazine. The most common answers were the colours white, black and peach. This allowed to see what colours would be popular among the age group and therefore meaning that I should use these colours.

My seventh question was asked to see if there was a point of adding some kind of notice of competitions or something similar. The results show that the majority would participate in such competitions and so this may help boost readership.

My eighth question was to see what the participants views were of how often I should distribute the music magazine. This is to get an idea of how often i should distribute the magazine.

Target Audience Profiling

I analysed my target audience's interests in terms of  their hobbies and their music interests in order to get an idea of what kind of music genre they would want the magazine to be if they were to purchase my music magazine. I used the two people above from my college.
